Description

Sliding on Ice Spectating at the Whistler Sliding Centre offers a unique chance to experience high-speed winter sports up close. From mid-October to mid-April, the Centre opens its doors to visitors eager to watch the thrilling action of luge, bobsleigh, and skeleton. Spectators can access public areas of the track for free, providing stunning views of athletes racing through the ice.

During the on-ice season, the centre buzzes with activity as athletes train and compete. Spectators can watch the action up close during scheduled sliding times. This unique opportunity to witness luge, bobsleigh, and skeleton athletes in motion is not to be missed. The Guest Services building is open on sliding days, providing access to washrooms and a small shop with snacks and merchandise.

Year-Round Free Public Access

Visitors are welcome to explore the Whistler Sliding Centre throughout the year. A self-guided interpretive tour takes guests along the track, providing fascinating insights into the history and operation of the centre. Highlights include the Olympic rings, the chance to stand on the podium, and photo opportunities in a bobsleigh.

The track’s famous Thunderbird Corner and the finish dock are must-see spots. The public areas are generally accessible for strollers and wheelchairs, though winter weather conditions can affect accessibility.

Safety & Wildlife Awareness

When visiting, it’s important to observe safety guidelines. Stay clear of the track and railings, avoid climbing or leaning over, and refrain from using flash photography as it can distract the athletes. Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times, and appropriate footwear is advised as walkways may be slippery. In case of wildlife encounters, such as bears, it’s crucial not to feed or disturb them.

Try Their Activities

For those interested in diving deeper into sliding sports, the Whistler Sliding Centre offers several engaging activities:

  • Passenger Bobsleigh: Experience the rush of bobsleigh without needing prior experience. This thrilling ride in a bobsleigh, piloted by a trained professional, offers a unique perspective on the sport. Proceeds from these activities support the Centre's efforts to promote and develop sliding sports.
  • Summer Bobsleigh: During the warmer months, visitors can ride a bobsleigh equipped with wheels, reaching speeds up to 90 km/hr. This exciting activity is open to everyone, with youth ages 12-18 sliding for free.
  • Learn to Slide: Curious about luge, skeleton, or bobsleigh? The Centre offers programs for all skill levels, where individuals can learn and train in these exhilarating sports. No previous experience is required.
