Description

Wanuskewin Heritage Park, located just minutes from downtown Saskatoon, is a multi-award-winning Plains Indigenous cultural heritage site. This newly renovated cultural learning center is a testament to the rich history and traditions of the First Nations people, offering visitors an immersive experience into the Northern Plains Indigenous culture. With its art galleries, restaurant, and gift shop, Wanuskewin celebrates the authentic heritage of the land where all Nations have gathered for over 6,400 years.

Cultural Programming and Exhibits

Wanuskewin Heritage Park provides a variety of cultural programs that offer unique opportunities to engage with Indigenous history and culture. The exhibits and displays within the Visitor Centre showcase the significance of the land, featuring interactive elements that educate and inspire. Films and cultural tours further enrich the experience, offering deeper insights into the traditions and stories of the Plains Indigenous peoples.

Trails of Discovery

For those looking to explore the natural beauty of the area, Wanuskewin features over 7 kilometers of hiking trails that wind through the opimihāw Valley. These trails offer a journey through time, with 19 unique archaeological points of interest that highlight the area's historical and cultural importance. The trails vary in length and difficulty, from the short and easy Trail of Discovery to the more challenging Path of the People. Along these paths, visitors can experience the serene landscape that has been a gathering place for countless generations.

Guided and Self-Guided Tours

Wanuskewin offers both guided and self-guided tour options, allowing visitors to choose how they experience the landscape, spirit, and history of the park. Guided tours are led by experienced interpreters who provide immersive programming, perfect for school groups, businesses, families, and more. These tours include access to the Visitor Centre’s exhibits, galleries, and gift shop, as well as the trail system and seasonal offerings such as snowshoes in winter.

For those who prefer to explore at their own pace, self-guided visits offer the freedom to wander through the exhibits, take in an Indigenous art exhibition, and walk the trails. Both options provide a comprehensive experience of Wanuskewin's offerings, with the added bonus of daily dance presentations during the summer months.

Year-Round Programs

Wanuskewin Heritage Park hosts a variety of year-round programs designed to educate and entertain visitors of all ages. These include:
