Description

Owl Talks at Grouse Mountain offer an enriching experience for visitors, providing insights into the fascinating world of these majestic birds of prey. Led by knowledgeable wildlife specialists, these talks offer a deeper understanding of owl behavior, habitat, and conservation efforts.

The Educational Experience

Included with your Mountain Admission ticket, Owl Talks are hosted daily during the summer season. Led by wildlife specialists, these interactive sessions take place near the Grizzly Bear Habitat, allowing visitors to learn about silent-flying raptors up close. From the remarkable abilities of owls to turn their heads to the significance of their role as raptors in the ecosystem, Owl Talks provide valuable insights into these captivating creatures.

Meet the Owl Ambassadors

Grouse Mountain is home to several owl ambassadors, each with its own unique story and role in education and conservation efforts:

  • Cleo - Barn Owl: Cleo, a female Barn Owl, serves as an ambassador for her species, educating guests about Barn Owls' natural history and conservation concerns.
  • Odin - Barred Owl: Odin, a male Barred Owl, plays a crucial role in research efforts related to the highly endangered Spotted Owls, contributing valuable insights into incubation techniques and parenting methods.
  • Apollo - Great Horned Owl: Apollo, a young male Great Horned Owl, joined the Owl Ambassador team in 2023. With his large yellow eyes and distinctive calls, Apollo represents the resident local owls on Grouse Mountain.

Conservation Efforts

Grouse Mountain's commitment to wildlife conservation extends beyond education to action. The Refuge for Endangered Wildlife works closely with organizations such as the Northern Spotted Owl Conservation and Breeding Centre to raise awareness and support efforts to protect endangered species like the Northern Spotted Owl.

Online Education Programs

For those unable to visit in person, Grouse Mountain offers online education programs, including the popular Owls of Grouse Mountain session. These interactive programs bring the mountain's engaging educators directly to classrooms, providing students with a fun and informative learning experience.
