Introduction to Sailing

Course Progression

The course progression is designed to guide participants through each stage of their sailing journey, from mastering the basics to achieving advanced certifications. Here’s a breakdown of the recommended path:

Keelboat 1: Start Keelboat Sailing

  • Dive into sailing fundamentals with the introductory course.
  • No prior experience required.
  • Learn the essentials of crewing and skippering on a keelboat.
  • Small class sizes ensure personalized instruction.
  • Optional Women’s Only course available.

Keelboat 2: Keelboat Skipper

  • Build upon skills as a skipper and prepare for more advanced sailing adventures.
  • Prerequisite: Completion of Keelboat 1 or equivalent experience.
  • Gain specialized knowledge tailored to sailing on the Glenmore Reservoir.
  • Ideal for those interested in joining the Co-op Boat Program or pursuing further certifications.

Keelboat 3: Keelboat Cruising

  • Take sailing to the next level with an immersive three-day cruising course.
  • Explore the scenic tidal waters of the Gulf Islands.
  • Prerequisite: Successful completion of Keelboat 2 (Keelboat Skipper).
  • Earn the Basic Cruising Standard certification upon meeting performance objectives.

Expert Instruction

Instructors are seasoned sailors with Sail Canada certification and extensive experience navigating both local and coastal waters. With their expert guidance and support, participants receive the knowledge and skills needed to become confident and capable sailors.

Membership and Certification

Membership is not required to participate in sailing courses, making it accessible to all individuals interested in learning to sail. Additionally, Radio Operator Certificate (ROCm) and Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) are not mandatory for sailing on the Glenmore Reservoir.
