Description
Discover the thrill of paddling on the picturesque Glenmore Reservoir with Canoe Rentals available at the Calgary Canoe Club. Whether you're a seasoned paddler or a first-time adventurer, canoe rentals offer the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in nature and enjoy the serenity of the water.
Details
For those seeking a memorable outdoor experience, canoe rentals are available for one hour or for a half day. Each experience has a different price and note that rentals are on a first-come, first-served basis, and canoes are available for use on the reservoir only.
Equipment and Safety
Each canoe rental includes paddles and lifejackets, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience on the water. While necessary equipment is provided, paddlers are encouraged to bring their own if possible. Please be prepared to provide a deposit, such as a driver's license or car keys, while on the water.
The canoes available are standard 17ft aluminum with two seats, accommodating up to three adults or two adults and two small children. Safety is paramount, and all paddlers are advised to maintain proper balance in the boat and be confident in their swimming abilities, as canoes may tip over, especially in windy conditions.
Reservoir Regulations and Recommendations
As per City of Calgary bylaws, dogs are not permitted in boats on the reservoir. However, fishing from canoes is allowed, provided that canoes are cleaned after use. Additionally, paddlers are asked to refrain from landing on the shoreline to avoid tracking mud into the canoes.
For convenience, it is recommended to download and complete the rental form before arrival, as paperwork is no longer completed at the Club. Please note that rentals do not include reservations, and availability can be checked in advance by calling ahead on busy weekends.
More Information
Before embarking on a canoeing adventure, it's essential to be aware of safety guidelines and recommendations to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience on the water:
- Swimming Proficiency: All paddlers must have confidence in their swimming abilities in the event of a capsized canoe. Being able to swim is crucial for safety while canoeing.
- Stay Close to Shore: In the event of a tip-over, it's advisable to stay close to the shore to facilitate swimming to safety if needed. Additionally, paddlers should remain near the Clubhouse during poor weather conditions for easy access to shelter and assistance if required.
- Respect for Other Watercraft: Paddlers must yield right of way to all other vessels on the reservoir, including the S.S. Moyie paddleboat, rowers, dragon boats, and competitive canoes and kayaks. Avoiding the race course and giving ample space to other watercraft ensures a safe and harmonious experience for all users of the reservoir.
- Kayak Rentals: Please note that kayak rentals are available exclusively to club members. Non-members are encouraged to explore canoeing opportunities instead.
