Description
Established in 1914, the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) is a distinguished institution dedicated to showcasing art, culture, and natural history from around the world and throughout time.
Recognized as one of the top 10 cultural institutions in North America, and the largest and most comprehensive museum in Canada, the ROM houses an exceptional collection of 18 million artworks, cultural artifacts, and natural history specimens across 40 carefully curated gallery and exhibition spaces.
As Canada’s foremost field research institute and a global leader in discovery, the ROM plays an essential role in expanding our understanding of artistic, cultural, and natural phenomena. Architecturally, the museum marries its original heritage design with the contemporary brilliance of the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal, designed by Daniel Libeskind, making it a national landmark and a premier cultural destination in the heart of Toronto.
Outdoor Area
On August 21, 2019, the ROM introduced the Helga and Mike Schmidt Performance Terrace and the Reed Family Plaza to the public. This new outdoor space on Bloor Street offers a welcoming environment with garden-side seating and an open-air venue for musical performances, theatrical presentations, discussions, and community gatherings.
