The Dark Skies' Experience
Participants gather at various sites around the Meewasin Valley to delve into the mysteries of the night sky and understand the significance of dark sky conservation. These activities are not only about stargazing but also about fostering a deeper connection with the universe and the environment.
Stargazing at the Northeast Swale provides a magical night under the stars. This location offers an ideal setting for observing the bright and fast-moving meteors of the Perseids Meteor Shower, which peaks in mid-August. The activity includes an introduction by Meewasin and an engaging presentation by Tim Yaworski, the Living Sky Guy. Attendees will learn about the wonders of the cosmos and how to capture celestial phenomena using a DSLR or mirrorless camera and tripod.
The night sky exploration continues through telescopes, binoculars, and the advanced SeeStar smart telescope. Guests can enjoy the experience while sipping a warm beverage, creating a cozy and immersive stargazing adventure. The proceeds from these activities support Meewasin’s conservation efforts in the river valley, adding a layer of sustainability to this celestial experience.
